Thanksgiving by Emily Berkner and Zach Cole

dscf5631.jpg ACE opened its doors to the community and served over 400 people on Tuesday November 20th, 2007. The ACE thanksgiving celebration is a tradition that started in 1977 because the students and teachers wanted to thank the community for helping them start the school. Every year since then ACE has served hundreds of people who either went to Locust Ave Elementary, are ACE alumni, are family of ACE students, or are people from the community who want to come to our dinner.

This year we started preparations for the event a few weeks ahead of time. At a parent’s night meeting, parents were asked if they could bring home turkeys that were donated from Stew Leonards. Tuesday morning students came to the school carrying drink, desserts, and roasted turkeys. From 11:00 in the morning until 1:30 in the afternoon, Guidance Groups switched on and off with serving and waiting tables to make sure that every guest was fed and served.

At the front door Sharhonda Perkins and Dana Cole sold raffle tickets, wreaths, and poinsettias to visitors to try and raise money for a new van. “I wanted to do the wreath sales because I wanted to greet the people who were coming in and make a good first impression,” says Dana Cole.

The day was a success with friends and families enjoying the food and just being together.
