Winter Olympics Games

Winter Olympic games
Winter Olympic games

Every four years, major international multi-sports competitions for sports played on snow and ice take place at the Winter Olympic Games. The 1924 Winter Olympics took place in Chamonix, France, and were the first Winter Olympics. The ancient Olympic Games, which took place in Olympia, Greece, from 776 BC to 394 AD, served as the model for the current Olympic Games. Bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, and Nordic skiing were all the main five Winter Olympic sports, which is made up of nine disciplines. The games were held every 4 years from 1924 to 1936, but were interrupted in 1940 and 1944 by World War II and then resumed in 1948.  The Winter Olympic games have been hosted on three continents by thirteen countries. They have each been held four times in the United States (1932,1960,1980,2002) three times in France (1924,1968, and 1992) and twice in switzerland (1928,1948)

Since then the Olympics have grown tremendously. Both sports and disciplines had been added and a few of them like snowboarding, luge, freestyle skiing, short track speed skating, alpine skiing, and freestyle skiing have earned a long-term place on the Olympic schedule. In the most recent games Twelve countries have taken part in every Winter Olympic Games in 2022: the United States, Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and Switzerland. There are only six nations that have medalled at every Winter Olympic Games:The United States, Austria, Canada, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. In the history of the Winter Olympics, Norway holds the most medals.

Unfortunately, the next Winter Olympic Games is not until February 2026. Top athletes from around the world will participate in 16 Olympic disciplines at the Milano Cortina Games. Two weeks of intense competition in Alpine skiing, Ice hockey, Freestyle skiing, Speed and Short track skating, Cross-country skiing, Figure skating, Snowboarding, Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge, Ski jumping, Curling, Biathlon competitions, Nordic combined, and Ski mountaineering.

If I were able to decide on any of the Winter Olympic sports to compete in would be bobsleighing. Everything about the movie “Cool Runnings” makes me want to strive harder into the activities I enjoy.
