ACE’s Winter ’07 Graduation By Emily Berkner

Friday January 19th, 2007 was just a normal day at ACE for some but for five students it was the start of a new chapter in their lives. Five of our seniors stood at the podium and spoke words of wisdom and talked about past experiences, Rocky Moreira, Lindsay Boylan, Carissa Ahearn, Surita Epps, and Jeff Carreiro.

Rocky Moreira, who has set off to study Technology in Massachusetts was awarded the ACE of Hearts for caring. Surita Epps who is not only starting college at WestConn on Monday the 22nd but also was awarded the ACE of Diamonds for academic progress. Carissa Ahearn, a 17 year old who graduated a semester early followed in her mothers foot steps by graduating from ACE. She has decided to take classes at WestConn. Lindsay Boylan is off the Naugatuck Valley Community College in the fall shared the Ace of Spades with Carissa for hard work. Last but certainly not least Jeff Correiro who has been at Ace the longest of all the graduates was awarded the Ace of Clubs for attendance.

On Friday, English teacher Nancy Berman’s classroom was transformed into a place where goals are met and dreams become reality. A podium was set up inform of several rows of chairs that were later on filled with family, friends, and important guest such as the mayor and the superintendent. One by one the graduates stood at the podium and told stories of their growth while at Ace. After the speeches were given by the students and the principal Dave Canavan friends and family stood up and shared kind thoughts and words of praise and encouragement to the graduates. “The more our consciousness is expanded, the bigger the fish. I hope you’re no longer satisfied catching the smaller fish,” Dave Canavan, Principal
