Goodbye For Now Merf by Shinaya Howerton and Amethyst Rosado

After seven years of working as a teacher at ACE, Fred Merrill, better known as “Merf” is now leaving to pursue his teaching career at Danbury High School. As much as Merf loves teaching here at ACE, he feels he needs a change. He says, “I’ve been at ACE for seven years now, and I need to move on to a new challenge. It was a hard decision to make, but I feel it is the right thing to do.”

He will be teaching a special education/resource class, a basic reading class, and co-teaching a business math course, as he does here at ACE. When we asked him what he would miss the most about ACE, he replied, “The people I worked with, both the teachers and the students. It was such a family atmosphere and everyone became family to me. I will also miss the outdoor adventure program, because it was a wonderful way for students to get out of their regular routine and try new things. And last but not least, I will miss being called Merf. It will be different and certainly more formal to be called Mr. Merrill again.”

It has been an experience being able to work with Merf. He was a very enthusiastic person, and a good person at heart. He was also a great teacher, and we will all miss him very much.
