To explain the show without spoiling things is highly difficult. But the show follows the odd happenings going on in the small town of Hawkin’s during the 1980’s. The show follows Mike, Will, Dustin, Max, Lucas and Eleven, Jim Hopper, Joyce (Will’s mom), Nancy (Mike’s sister), Jonathan (Will’s brother), and Steve over a course of four seasons as they unpack government experimentation, and supernatural happenings. The first season starts off slow as Will goes missing which leads his mom to become desperate in finding him. The show has many twists and turns and A LOT of disturbing imagery, especially as the seasons go on. The show is pretty good with a lot of unique turns that you wouldn’t typically point out upon your first watch.

It’s definitely a show you could easily dislike if you’re not a gore fan or a sci-fi fan. However, if that type of stuff is not a bother I would highly recommend taking a peek through the first season. It’s well worth some of its hype, but there’s a lot that’s not so worthy.

Overall I find the show enjoyable as a series. Now if you haven’t watched this yet, the next few sentences will contain spoilers. I did find it going down the path of being overrated as the seasons went on. It felt like they were stretching a lot of the plot for either the sake of relationships or Eleven’s story build. I think if it focused just slightly less on Eleven after the big government reveal and focused more on the fact it was government run and they were aware of the danger and such I think the show could have been a lot better.

But if you’re looking for a new Netflix binge, I HIGHLY recommend taking a look at Stranger Things. It definitely has a lot of things to offer in terms of entertainment value and what hooks you in. The look of the creatures and other worlds look fantastic, the acting in it is fairly strong and when your favorite character dies you actually feel bad about it. It doesn’t focus on any big towns or famous people, it’s just surrounding a small town with random teens. It gives you that ‘I’m like them’ feel in terms of them being just random suburban kids in a small town. So, watch it or don’t. I don’t really care cause I know I’ll be tuning in when season five comes out.
