The Poetry Contest By Tim Pagan
June 11, 2007
The IMPAC writing contest had its 10th annual IMPAC-CSU Competition this year. Here at ACE students entered and submitted poetry and prose writing through our teacher Joanne. There were 500 entries submitted, 48 made it into the semi-finals, 24 from the Fairfield County Area and the other 24 from the Litchfield County Area.
There were 4 out of 5 of us that entered here at the Alternative Center. Phoebe Ermert for her poetry work entitled “The World.” Ashley Webb for her prose work entitled “My Backbone.” Kyle Sturges for his poetry work entitled “Amish Businessman.” And myself Tim Pagan for my prose work entitled “The Life of an Artist.”
On April 26th, the 48 writers met in President’s Reception Room in the Westside Classroom Building on the Westside Campus at Western Connecticut State University for an award ceremony. There they chose one winner to exceed into the finals and win $1000. Unfortunately the 4 ACE students didn’t make it into the finals but we didn’t mind that really, I know we were all amazed we even made it into the semi–finals out of 500 entries.
Other than the IMPAC contest there was the Danbury Cultural Commission Poetry Contest. ACE also participated in this contest and out of 228 entries, we had the number 1 writer, Syrbreana Colon.
