A trending documentary, Devil in the Family, takes viewers on an emotional journey through the unsettling world of Ruby Franke, a controversial figure behind the 8 Passengers YouTube channel.
Ruby was known for her family vlogging, and in 8 Passengers, she was perceived as a kind-hearted mother. Later, however, her real-life struggles and accusations heavily impact her, and the documentary uncovers the dark truth behind the scenes.
In the documentary, Ruby Franke’s story starts with a woman caught between her public image as a loving mother and the accusations of abuse and neglect that have tormented her family in recent years. Incorporating interviews, footage, and firsthand accounts, the film explores Ruby’s background and the challenges she faced raising six children while balancing the pressures of social media fame.
Devil in the Family highlights how Ruby’s strict parenting style and conventional decisions led to public backlash and legal issues. Viewers start to wonder about the role Ruby’s husband and the children’s father, Kevin, played in the alleged abuse.
When asked about his guilt, ACE senior, Sheyly Curillo, said, “I feel like there’s no way there wasn’t anything clicking in his mind that something isn’t right, but I don’t think that he was a part of abusing the children.”
Additionally, she says it was shocking that “The parts where they added actual clips because I used to watch those exact clips as a child.”
ACE Science teacher Katja Pieragostini describes the situation as “entirely disgusting and heartbreaking. I feel like we should have known about these things early on, and I hope the children are getting the help they need.”
