On May 12th a group of ACE students including myself went to the American Museum of Natural History with our chaperones, two teachers from ACE Kyle and Katija.
Now I will get into a little bit of the history of the museum. This amazing museum is located in New York City and it first opened its doors in 1869. Albert Smith Bickmore was a Harvard student zoologist who created a great proposal on what he wanted the museum to be. He caught the attention and support of William E. Dodge politician and activist as well as Theodore Roosevelt, Joseph Choate, and J. Pierpont Morgan. The governor of New York at the time signed the Act of Incorporation Making the museum official later John David Wolfe became the president of the museum. This museum is one of the greatest scientific and cultural institutions ever. Since it was founded, its goal has been to discover and interpret information about the cultures of humans and the natural world that can be done through scientific research, education, and exhibition.
I would rate this Museum a 10 out of 10 I learned so much through it and I also got to see some very cool exhibits. For example, I learned a bit more about evolution when we came across the exhibits with the cavemen. It showed me that depending on which region you are from or which region is in your DNA is the type of human you are because we humans are classified into origin groups. That to me was very cool and educational.
Here are interviews of two students and one of the teachers who went on the trip. I first interviewed Katija our teacher and I asked “What was your favorite part about the trip?” she answered, “For me personally, my favorite part was seeing you guys have fun laughing and having a good time but I also enjoyed the planetarium and the gems and minerals they were very beautiful.”
The second person I interviewed was Avarie, a student who went on the trip. I asked, “What is something you learned?” She replied, “The different sizes of the animal skulls and brains and even though animal brains specifically monkeys may be small they are very intelligent”
The last person I interviewed was Emily another ACE student. I asked her, “What is something that surprised you?” She said, “The jewelry of the famous rappers especially knowing it was real and actually worn by the famous rappers like Bad Bunny, Nicki Minaj, and the Migos.”
Overall, the trip was fun and I would recommend going and visiting the museum. I’m glad ACE is a place of opportunity where we get the chance to go explore new and interesting things.
