College and Career Success Class

This school year students at ACE were offered the opportunity to take a college level course after school at DHS. Taking this course gives students the chance to gain an English college credit as well as a credit for high school. This class is given once a week on Wednesdays from 5:45-8:45 at Danbury High School for 8 weeks up until December.

Students would  benefit from this class by receiving an early head start at the college experience to be prepared for what will be expected of them after high school. As a student taking this course myself I can say this class has not only showed me what will be expected in college, but it has taught me that it’s important to focus on what matters, even if you need to take risks in order to achieve goals it’s important to do so for success.

Another important lesson I have learned is to learn from mistakes and instead of looking back in regret take it as an opportunity for improvement. Although at first it seemed like a difficult commitment, the weeks passed by quickly, as we progressed the work became less difficult and I improved my writing skills.

Cierra Medina, a student at ACE also taking this course, she has found it has helped her look for help through resources such as WAVE. WAVE is a website that helps college students with a variety of things such as financial help, internships, jobs, career exploration, and mentoring. When entering college it’s important to realise that it’s nothing like highschool, college is a place where in order to get help you need to reach out yourself.

After finishing this course I have learned that there are several different opportunities for myself and using the time I have wisely to explore all of these options is crucial in order to succeed at goals in life. Taking chances and really focusing on what’s important today will impact the future that has to come.
