The spring days are passing, and it is becoming warmer out. As summer approaches, many of us look forward to spending more time outside but may have a hard time figuring out what to do either alone or with friends and family.
One of my personal favorite summer activities to do with some friends is to go to the beach. Swimming around and tanning with some fresh-cut fruit to snack on can help stimulate the release of dopamine, which is a natural mood enhancer. Volleyball, frisbee, and kite flying are also some great alternatives for those who do not like to get into the water. A few well-known beaches you can visit this summer in Connecticut are Jennings Beach located in Fairfield, Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, as well as Walnut Beach located in Milford.
If you enjoy wildlife and nature, a drive-through zoo is also a great idea for a fun summer activity. You get the opportunity to see animals in their habitats and how they live, all from the view of your car. Most zoos allow you to feed the animals as well. Action Wildlife Foundation, located in Goshen, allows you to experience all of this for just under $40. Silerman Farms in Easton and Flamig Farm in Simsbury offer petting zoos and farm stores that are also fun day trips if you want to spend some time outside with animals.
Camping is a favorite summertime activity for many who want to connect with nature. It offers a variety of experiences like fishing, hiking, kayaking, stargazing, making s’mores, and cooking out, and the best part is you get to choose where and how long you decide to camp. Great camping locations that offer this is Lake Waramaug State Park in New Preston, Black Rock State Park and Cozy Hills Campground in Bantam.
Summer is a great opportunity for activities that bring joy and wonderful memories. These are just a few ideas, whether you enjoy outdoor adventures or something just as simple as relaxing by the water, it is nice to be able to enjoy and appreciate much more.
