Comic Con is one of several amazing conventions to go to if you’re looking for somewhere to meet people with the same interests as you and splurge on things you fancy! Thursday October 17th, ACE took ten of its students to the first day of this year’s comic con.
At Comic Con there were several different events. Conventions usually have panel discussions where a group of people, called panelists, from a specific franchise gathering to talk about said franchise, with fans attending. Some are free while others might be costly. There was a Dragon Ball Z panel going on when we had arrived, our school counselor who started the trip went to see it. According to him it was great. Alongside the panels, actresses and actors often hold meet and greets at their own booths, which are not free and usually a ridiculous amount of money, but that is the purpose of comic con! Famous people like Elizabeth Olsen, Cameron Monaghan, and Noel Fisher were three booths I would have liked to see had not the prices been so out of my league. Of course though, movie and show actors were not the only type of actors attending. The famous voices of L and Light Yagami also made appearances, selling signed drawings of the characters they voice, as most voice actors do.
Panelists and famous people are cool, but those were just a few of many other events comic con offers. While we were there, games like Little Nightmares had demos of their works in progress to play. There was also a scavenger hunt for those who had tickets to the entire weekend. The Javits center is huge, going for a single day is sort of a bummer though since there’s too much to file through in one day. My personal favorite part of every convention is the area where artists sell their own work, usually referred to as the Artist Alley. The Alley is a perfect way for small artists and business owners to promote themselves and sell their products. But the alley of artists isn’t really exclusive to art, they had a writer’s block in there alongside it selling books. Right outside of the alley is the usual booths selling anime figures, action figures, video games, mystery boxes. Anything you can think of. When it was time to go, I think all of us had trouble getting back in the van for the drive home.
Overall, going to comic con with the school was a truly unique experience, coming from someone whos been to multiple conventions. Comic con is the biggest one I’ve ever been to. The center was booked for around 200,000 people to be there but while it was crowded it wasn’t as bad as usual. It could be an exciting tradition if the school started bringing a few students every year, I know I’ll be going next time.
