New Beginnings

New BeginningsBy: Justin Scott
So far school has been in session for almost two months. We have gained new students and teachers and kicked off the year on the right foot. Last year ACE lost two of its prime teachers, Fred Saner and Fred Merrill who both played a big role in the staff here at ACE. In replacement of the two teachers are two new ones, Laura Blake and Rob Melillo. They have started this year and both seem to have grown fond of ACE.

Laura is currently teaching English here at ACE and plans on teaching math next semester. Laura once worked at DHS then transferred to ACE. “Even though I love my job at DHS there’s a chance at ACE to create relationships with students because there are fewer students.” To Laura this is a new environment and it is important for her to adapt to the school so she can be the successful teacher she wants to be. Laura says, “I would try to do thesame as ACE at the high school but it’s too large but I do miss a lot of my students.” Laura has always wanted to be a part of ACE. “I have wanted to come to ACE for awhile but then when the opportunity was offered I washappy to take it.”

Rob also feels the same about ACE. “After spending six years at Rebound I decided it was time for a change and ACE provided me with theopportunity to work with mature students and also let me get back into the social studies content.” Rob also added that “ACE is a good school with dedicated staff and motivated students.” During his interview he wasasked how ACE is different from his other job and he responded, “Yes and no. The amount of support is greater here then at Rebound because theexpectations are higher due to age. In other words you’re in high school so don’t act like you’re in middle school.”

It’s clear to see both of these teachers are happy and have found their place at ACE. They have changed locations for the better and are happy to continue their career.
