Rob Melillo By Emily Berkner

For the past six years Rob Melillo has been teaching for Rebound and now Ace, but that’s not his only form of reaching out to the community. Two years ago Rob was approached by our own Mayor Boughton who asked him if he would run for city council. After thinking about it he decided that he wanted to give more the community so he ran for the zoning commission.

The zoning commission is a legislative branch made up of six permanent member and 3 alternates. The commission is used to make decisions about locations of offices and buildings and also aids in allowing or declining alcohol permits.
Not many people understand all of the decision-making that goes into putting up a building. For example if a bar or restaurant is opening and asks the zoning commission for permission to have an alcohol permit the zoning commission then has to look over the location. If there is a school within a certain distance they cannot approve the permit.

Other then being a teacher at The Alternative Center and a current member of the Danbury City Zoning Commission Rob is also a Deacon at the Danbury Church of Christ and on the board of directors at the Tidal River Christian Camp.
